Winter in the Vineyards

You’ve all asked for them, so here are some pictures I have taken around Northern California the last month or so. As most of you know, I love to take pictures and these are just some of the latest. Any questions about them I can answer. Enjoy!

WOW, such different sights than what we see in KS. These are beautiful Adam!

The first vine picture….how old is it?

Awesome pics, Adam–with all the cold, snow, sleet, and freezing rain we have had here in Pittsburgh lately, those pics made me extremely jealous! I have some friends who are ‘bikers’–what type of bike do you have? And how is the weather there in the ‘winter’ months?

I have no idea what The Mustards are. This beautiful flower certainly can’t be what they use to make that smelly yellow stuff people put on hot dogs is it??
I know a story about The Mustard Seed….
And, I do know that those vineyards make great wine! :D
Thanks for the pics Adam; you’re a great photographer — I love slide .com!

Thanks, Adam…

There is so much about vineyards I don’t know. Well, Ok…let’s be honest. I don’t know anything about vineyards…pruning or anything.

Thanks for sharing the pictures…and a bit of your ‘other’ life.

Oh that made me miss my home state A LOT!!
Also made me really thirsty.

Thank you Adam! :)

Great pics, Adam!

I don’t know beans about wine or growing grapes, but can I assume that the Mustard plants are there to make the vineyards more attractive to bees? -Rod-

Okay Adam pick your brain time! We fight wild mustards here like crazy, only thing that likes them is the goats. They eat them until they die. Now tell me about the bike. I come from a biker type family. My brother has a gold wing right now, but we have had Hondas, Suzukis (before the cars) and a few more.

Are those T-posts holding up the vines, that is what we call those posts that are heavy and have spikes on the ends?

Don’t worry your information will not raise a winemaker, only a nosy person!

Excellent pictures.

Oh I forgot about the motorcycle…someone on AMERICAN IDOL rides one. Hmmm I don’t have all the saucy details but maybe Adam does. lol– hint hint.

My guess is that the mustard flower plant is there to attract the tourists to the winery during the winter months - Makes it pretty.

My guess is…Adam’ s bike is a fatboy harley.
Nice looking bike Adam, i used to love them.

Do you actually get a crop off of the mustard?

Oh my gosh! You’re a biker! How cool is that!! You’re bike is gorgeous, perfect color combo and just looks like a smooth ride… excellent taste Adam! And the background in the photo with your bike in was picture perfect!

My first bike was a 76′ Harley Davidon (AMF). I learned to ride on that bike. It was a dinky 2 cylinder and the gear pattern was one down and four up. I’ll never forget that.

Then I bought a used 883, I think that was in 1988 or 89. Bought it used and it only had 50 miles on it. The girl who owned it, her husband made her sell it because he didn’t know she was buying it, same situation as I was in hahaha… so I practiced on that bike and learned everything I could

Then I advanced to a ‘76 Sportster bored 40 over. I got that one because I had to prove a point to my (first) husband and the guys in the neighborhood. I was taking that one down to the local track and praticed racing it. I found a guy that didn’t know my husband and he taught me how to race. My next bike, at that time, was going to be a cafe racer but I never got that far.

LOL– Me here grasping for anything when playing guess the POD

k2–

I like the final product from the vineyards–

I use to go to a Church- Church In the Wind- they were all bikers- so I was one of the few who drove in with a car–

There use to be a biker bar here- Warsaw Wallys– Great Blues! One of my old hangouts!

Do you have any of these in the vineyards, Adam?

Comment by Susan- Peace

Adam–

How about some shots of your family?

nite all!

Adam: What is growing on the cabernet vine? Is it meant to grow there, or is it a disease?

Comment by KT

I like the San Francisco one the best. Crystal clear photo that even picks up the haze in the sky in the background.

Those are beautiful pictures….

The bay area is so pretty … my husband is from San Ramon, his entire family lives there. Dublin, Pleasanton …

Bay area is just a bit pricey though!! I don’t know how people afford to live there.

Wasn’t aware you were such an accomplished photographer… I have 3 at home and nowhere else to hang photos, so we’re binding them. Keep yours coming. It’s a wonderful way to escape from everything that’s going on in the world. A bit of sanity and beauty!

Great shots Adam, I’ve been to SF and Napa only once…didn’t want to go home to Alabama.

Adam, no matter what kind of camera you use, if you don’t have an eye for composition, it just won’t be the same thing. Try your hand at black and white photography. Now there’s a challenge :)

Adam-Like your pix a lot, especially the winter ones of the vineyard, which you seldom see but have their own solemn beauty. If you want to see more, check out our doc, A State of Vine, about the Nor Cal wine industry.
I’ll send you a copy if you wish.

Adam,
I remember you being in Beloit, 1996 it was. That’s awesome you guys had a fire in the bullpen! I guess there was a few hiding areas down there. Thank you for sharing that memory with me. I have some fun bullpen memories, too: in 1986 there were a bunch of jokesters on the team. Hilarious antics. These guys would send me to the concession stand to get them food. They let me keep the change. A couple bucks here and there was great for a 9 year old! 1987 I could go on the field to play pepper with the guys……… 1996 was my last year going to the games. Pretty much my whole childhood was spent at that ballpark. (1984-93, and 1996. 1994-95 I didn’t live in the area.) Every home game. I maybe missed an average of 2 each year. Lots of awesome memories. Lots of great guys over the years… Good times!

BTW: It is not warming up here yet… 4 new inches of heavy wet snow today. Cannot wait for my cruise in May!

Striving for the ultimate Pinot, the passing of Jamie Davies, Pe-CHANG-gaaaaa and much more

For the next couple of weeks it’s just you and me, dear readers, as Kim is on special assignment and won’t be contributing to the daily grind, so to speak, for a little while. But I’ll be here for you. I’ll always be here for yo…
