It’s a small world.

You hear that said all the time, “It’s a small world.”

But really, I have never felt it so much.

Lately in airports I have bumped into a few friends, former teammates and even a high school alum. But nothing compares to the luck (pun intended) of my job. Yes we get to see history in the front row, but just as important are the amazing people we get to meet and even get to know. Such is the case of Patrick Lane, who runs an Irish pub in New York where we like to hang.

During my time here at a Fox he always has a great welcome and makes you feel at home, even when you are missing holidays, birthdays and reunions. Every time he reminds me….”If you go to Ireland, you have to meet my family.” So, Tamera and I made the run out to Galway and are so glad we did. The area is stunning and I wish we had more time to explore it, it would take days. This slideshow comes from the drive to Galway from Dublin and then the area around Clarinbridge.

We are off to London next (we’ll see Max) and I have been told we’ve had a Shaffer sighting! I am told he is embedding next and I look forward to his stories. Also, I will explain the bombed hotel and some of the locations in these pictures.

Adam said that you’re going embed tomorrow. That means that you’ll have some sort of uniform on. I strongly suggest you get a photo taken while wearing it and post the picture, please.

Oh, and be safe, you’re making me very nervous.

Wheeeeeee!!! We get to hear behinds the scenes info on Iraq! Can’t wait.

Comment by Terri ~ Las Vegas

Wellllll…..

I think anytime dear Adam comes to any of our towns….

we should meet up for a Starbucks or Baskin Robbins… and post on the blog!

Comment by FL Sunshine

John- regarding your 2:56 post. ha ha! that was great! However, it could happen that if the PM of Iraq read the blog they would think there are hidden meanings in peeps in the microwave, beer and panty hose to keep one warm and punching bags to lighten the stress. ;-)

Tamera– I bet you are having the time of your life—– I am so envious!

LDG—

I also left you a question on the Robert blog–

Comment by Susan-AZ

Adam–

I had to look- embed- up– because my embedding definition would not have made sense-

journalist traveling with military unit: a journalist who has been officially assigned to travel with a military unit during a war and report freely any information that does not jeopardize national security

LDG– This was the question I left you on the other thread–

Comment by Susan-AZ

Hi Mrs. Housley–

You have been absent!

Hope you are well–

Susan

Great pics!!……Hope you are having good weather.

Adam~~~~~Did you forget your razor? Or is that a vacation tradition?

Max………………………. :D

Comment by Jen S

Oh yeah, and thanks……now I have that song in my head again~~
It’s a small world after all………..???

@Susan-AZ

“History lesson– Dunguaire Castle?”

16th century works, out near Kinvarra. Fulfills LDG’s-General-Rule-of-Castle-Ruins: Intact castles were rarely important militarily. This site is stupendously famous in modern times. Every postcard set and photo calendar of Ireland has about a 50-50 shot of having a picture of it. I think it is a Shannon-owned tourist site now.

Today’s ‘hey, did you notice?’: Most all the castle sites are named similarly, because a ‘Dun’ is a…

Oh, and you just had to share, didn’t you? You *know* that song is pure EVIL:

“la-la-la-LA-la-la…”

hannity is a neo-nazi? I wonder if him and my brother attend the same meetings? I wonder if they even have meetings?

I learn new things on this blog every day

Comment by Max

I like the look of Clonmacnoise.
I think Gallaway was one of the places i visited

Terri: my door is always open to you. But it’s more likely that i’ll see you nearer than there.

I will take photos if i can get a camera working.

Comment by Patty

FYI…Adam’s Mom in the “Northern Ireland” thread wants to know about us. ;-)

Comment by Derek

hmmmmm..wants to know about us?

I am adams alter-ego, he keeps me stored in a big trunk and only lets me out when he is bored.

I was never born, I just began to exist one day.

I like tamera, she is nice and doesn’t let adam beat me.

or does she want the REAL story?

Comment by Patty

Derek! *L*

Now I have the image of the twilight zone episode, where the ventriloquist’s dummy was “alive”!

Comment by Patty

Adam…the pictures are beautiful! Thanks for sharing you and tamera’s trip with us!

Adam, your Mom “insisted” I sign on to check out your blog. Love the pics! Sounds like everyone is having a great time.
Where will you & Tamera spend Easter? We will miss you here — no one to hunt eggs this year for probably the first time in 30 something years. But, more ham for your Dad & Tony!!
Derek, if you really want to know the scoop on Adam, I am the one you need to talk to —

I am Adam’s “other” mother.

Happy Easter

Comment by Patty

LDG–

WHAT IS A DUN?

Comment by Max

Susan: A castle.

Comment by LDG

@Susan-AZ

your reward for reading every post in this thread is:

“…A DUN?”

A Dun was originally a fort made by piling earth and rocks in a wall (usually -> )around the top of a hill. Celtic “Duns” can be found all across Europe, from Ireland to Macedonia, but the modern Gaelic word “Dun” has come to mean ‘Castle’ in Ireland.

..which can create some silly sounding names if you use Dun AND Castle in the same name. ‘Dunluce Castle’ sounds about as silly as ‘City of Phoenix City’ would sound to you.

Comment by LDG

@Max

sorry, cross-posted you. Thanks for helping though.

Comment by Max

LDG: your explaination was more informative than mine.

Comment by Mom

Hey Adam!

Your pictures are great. Yes Derek (Karen-Napa) & I both have lots on Adam-
but……… We will miss the easter egg hunt this year with all the kids and you
and Tamera too! Adam told me Avi is in Israel, Max is in England, Susan had
pictures of Adam and her friends in AZ. Where is LDG & Derek from? How did
you all get to blogging?

This is fun-back from being under the weather. Going to Karen-Napa’s for Easter
tomorrow so a Happy Easter to everyone!

Comment by LDG

@Mom

“…Where is LDG & Derek from? How did you all get to blogging?”

As far as myself, please see the introductions over in the other thread.

Comment by Mom

I know its Easter weekend & everyone is busy too! Adam
just checked in & is busy but having a wonderful time!
He is going to try to blog as soon as he gets some time.

I am sure he will have some more pictures to share!

Thanks for the ferris wheel info-sure looks like the London Wheel!

LDG-can’t quite get the real you!

I am a little confused. Is each story
a thread? and do you blog from thread
to thread or each day a different thread.

I am so new at this-can’t quite keep up
with you all!

Comment by Mom

OK you guys!

I am getting lost in threads?

Help

Love Mom

Comment by LDG

@Mom

“I am getting lost in threads?”

Apparently, yes. ((smile))

Your question about who is here was over in *this* thread (thread = original post, story or topic; the one our good host here creates), and seems the manner here to answer where a question is asked:

http://housley.blogs.foxnews.com/2008/03/19/northern-ireland/

As to where people usually post (post = comment; entry in a thread, someone’s typing here) it seems the manner here is to post only in the most current thread by any author unless pulled back by a question to an older thread.

We don’t have “forum” software here, as per se. We can’t see a new post in a thread without going back and checking by hand (unless RSS feed is on and has updated). The main page does have post counts for each thread, but who remembers how many posts are in each thread?

If I may, I would suggest following the most current A. Housley thread and the most current R.Shaffer thread and leave all the older ones as history.

Comment by Mom

LDG Thanks for the great info.
Will try to keep current. I do have
a few jobs to do so I will probably
jump in and out & per you-use the
current story (thread)

Patty: Thanks for your info too.
I will catch on - hopefully soon.

Adam always loved history-even
when we traveled when he & his
brother were young. Followed the
guides around asking the questions.

Avi: Adam told me you are in Israel.
What a beautiful country you have. We
have been there-I just hope peace comes
to Israel & of course around the world.

Everyone else thanks for being so patient.
