CAPTURED!!

EXCLUSIVE INFO AND DETAILS: THIS INFO JUST IN FROM A PRODUCER I WORK WITH IN MEXICO….JORGE. HE WAS AT THE PRESS CONFERENCE. This picture was taken by Jorge as he obviously stood in front of the suspect. Another picture follows the link. Jorge tells me Laurean spoke very slowly, unnatural when asked questions. He was wearing jeans and a shirt and looked like he was in a bit of a trance

The fugitive was arrested at approximately 7:00 pm in San Juan de Vina, Municipio de Tacambaro, in the State of Michoacan. Jorge took down this quote… “Strong cooperation between Mexican and U.S. authorities increasingly ensures that those who commit crimes in either country will ultimately face capture and prosecution no matter where they might try to hide.” Also Jorge tells me that Laurean

MORE EXCLUSIVE DETAILS ABOUT THE CAPTURE He was just walking down the street at 7:00pm Thursday night in a town outside of Morelia, Mexico. The area is called Tacambaro and I am told by my contacts in the region that police officers were doing a routine inspection of a neighborhood. That’s where officers walk the beat and talk to people. When they approached Cesar Laurean and said hello and asked him a routine question or two, he didn’t respond. That was suspicious, so they asked him again. This time he responded in english, which isn’t normal for a neighborhood not associated with tourism and he told them his name, the officers didn’t put two and two together at the time. However, they did take him into custody because suspicions were now obviously high and when they got him to the station, they matched the wanted picture on the wall. Laurean only had 10 pesos on him at the time of his arrest and he was eating an avocado. Mexican police say he is cooperating. Laurean will be flown to Mexico City tonight where he will be handed over to the Mexico Attorney General’s Office and Eduardoo Medina-Mora. I had a conversation with Medina-Mora in Mexico City not long ago and he explained to me what would happen once a suspect was captured. Later during a phone conversation, the AG’s office never said IF he would be captured but WHEN. The suspect will get his day in Mexican court, but I was assured that the process to extradite him would begin immediately. Medina-Mora and his staff have been in contact with U.S. authorities and have been monitoring this case since the beginning. We have received a number of tips that Laurean had found refuge in this part of Mexico and I was told that they Mexican investigators had felt the same all along. Apparently the suspect had been hiding in a rancho. No word on who owned the home. Follow the link for the FBI wanted on him. Cesar Armando Laurean is wanted for his alleged involvement in the murder of 20-year-old Maria Lauterbach, who was pregnant at the time of her murder. Lauterbach was a United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal assigned to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. She had been missing since December 14, 2007. The charred remains of Lauterbach and her unborn baby were recovered in a shallow grave in the backyard of Laurean’s Jacksonville, North Carolina, residence. A state arrest warrant was issued on January 12, 2008, in Onslow County, North Carolina, after Laurean was charged with murder. That same day, Laurean was charged federally with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution by the United States District Court, Eastern District of North Carolina, Wilmington, North Carolina, and a federal warrant was issued for his arrest.

My links are not going through– anyhow– I found the above post in an article from January 12th, 2008- (Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown )

GJ—

I just read this-

Unfortunately, in the state of North Carolina, it isn’t against the law to communicate with a fugitive. It’s not against the law to know the whereabouts of a fugitive and refuse to reveal that information. So, Christina Laurean once again gets away with helping out her husband.

Is this so?

Comment by Susan-AZ

Sheriff Ed Brown said Friday that blood spatter evidence was found inside Laurean’s home, even on a ceiling. There was evidence of an attempted clean-up, including an attempt to paint over the blood spatter, he said.

Maybe because at the time, the child was 18 months old and GJ was talking about the events at that time– Her post sounds to me like she was talking about the events of that time-

I had heard on the news too about the floor being painted– One of the neighbor’s was being questioned and mentioned the paint being carried in-

anyhow—

Thanks Sentry– I wasn’t sure– hence my question mark by her age– 24-25- she is still young–

GJ–

Have a good week-end too!!!

RedEye– it runs late late here–so I don’t watch it too often– but it is entertaining– By the way– you are young! I just read your profile.

Are you still a legal analyst for True TV? I will look for you there too! I definitely will notice you now-

I’m not sure where you’re getting some of you information, but curious as to where you ever read the floor was painted along with some other statements you’ve made. The child in question is not 18 months old, she WAS when this case was reported, but we’re now into APRIL.

Christina laurean isn’t 21 years old, she will be 25 on July 21st! Cesar turned 21 last November 13th!

Morning GJ-

I agree with you — the wife’s behavior should be closely examined–She kept in contact with him– obviously she knew where he was– If they find any of the messages on Christina’s sister’s computer, I would imagine someone would want to press charges against her.

What doesn’t make sense to me is County Sheriff’s Capt. Rick Sutherland said Christina Laurean cooperated with authorities over the course of a three-month international manhunt but Southerland On Friday, Onslow County District Attorney Dewey Hudson said Laurean and his wife, Christina, sent Internet messages to each other through the MySpace social-networking service. Christina Laurean used her sister’s computer, which was seized, the North Carolina prosecutor said.

If she was cooperating and the seized computer finds emails being exchanged in the last three months, obviously she was not cooperating — He could have been tracked down easily!

I am real curious as to how far back these emails go– and if she had this communication with him in the last three months, she definitely needs to be charged with something. Did Christina’s sister know Christina was using her computer to contact Cesar?

And given her age– 21? Women do the most stupid things …– Remember the dentist who ran over her husband with her Mercedes Benz? She never thought about her children or even for that matter thought about her husband’s daughter who was in the car as she ran over her husband a few times–

Christina is hiding more than she is disclosing– If she was emailing him for the last three months, I don’t see this as cooperating– let alone how she helped Cesar paint floors and watched a BBQ pit being built– and the smell? Human flesh?

I wonder how much of a focus will be placed on Christina?

Thanks for replying– Off topic– I believe I saw you on RedEye a few weeks ago too!

Have a great day!!!!

Good points AZ. I just think that the wife’s behavior needs to be closely examined. She was after all also a solid United States marine who also worked on the military base and was not some stay at home mom or civilian wife with limited knowledge about lauterbach. I realize she cannot be forced to testify against her husband, but she certainly can’t under civilian or military law aide or abet him in any way no matter how small, once she knew he committed a crime and we know she admits she knew about lauterbach’s death when she accompanied him to talk to his lawyer just about 24 hrs before he fled, and now there is proof she was in contact with in with her husband by email in Mexico. We also know that she did in fact confront lauterbach on the military base, whose charred remains ends up in her backyard, in a rather large newly dug barbeque pit, and she ignores the fact that her husband painted a floor and she knew he did this, and may have helped him with some of the painting in the house, according to a neighbor that saw her with a paint can. Was she helping him cover up the blood? Who paints a floor? What wife would agree to a ruin a floor like that or not be furious with a husband for painting a without her consent? I thought most people either tile, carpet, or apply some sort of wood veneer, to household floors, unless it’s a cement area like a garage or something?
It’s one thing to stand by an unfaithful husband to fight to save a marriage but to risk going to jail yourself when you have an 18 month old child, is a very big stretch of imagination, unless she was involved in some way all along with the death or cover up would she remain so loyal . She accompanied him to his lawyer, and gave him a 24 hour head start to flea before she tells the authorities his ridiculous story. He leaves with money and then when he runs out of money he asks his wife (he woman he cheated on ) for financial help, and when she refuses he then decides it’s not worth hiding out in Mexico anymore, and contacts the Onslow county Sherriff to negotiate his surrender and allows himself to be caught. When he is caught he tells the authorities he loved Lauterbach. I would like to know if the wife was involved in any way with a physical altercation between herself and Lauterbach off that military base.

I saw your interview with Bill the first time and then when it was re-aired–

I had pretty much forgotten what was discussed in the first interview– I was glad Laura Ingram re-aired it–

thanks for the post— very informative–

I always wondered too if his wife helped him or gave him the advice to flee to Mexico– given they have a child (18 months?), the emotional bond would prevail over to do what is legally correct. (and being scared out of one’s wits).

#3– great points–

should be interesting, from your legal perspective, to see what happens-

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Detectives are investigating whether a Marine charged with the brutal slaying of a pregnant colleague from Ohio might have e-mailed North Carolina authorities to ask about turning himself in while he was on the run in Mexico.

However, Onslow County sheriff’s officials cautioned today that they are not sure whether a March 30 e-mail that claimed to be from Cpl. Cesar Laurean is genuine. Among other concerns, it was sent with the wrong spelling of Laurean’s name.

Sheriff’s Capt. Rich Sutherland think it’s less than a 50% probability.

Comment by gj

Hello Adam , You may recall that yesterday Laura Ingram re-aired my interview with Bill Reilly on the Ceear Laurean’s case yesterday. I hope that I am providing helpful insight on this. I am available to explain further what I believe will be Laurean’s next move, which is to try to use the extradition process to gain an even greater advantage for himself. Although I am a former military prosecutor, as always I tried to anticipate what the defense strategy might be. So here is what I think.
Exactly when we will we see Cesar Laurean step onto North Carolina soil depends on his decision at an extradition hearing within the next 60 days , but there are a few steps that must occur first.

1. Since Mexican Courts are required to prove as a formality that the warrant and arrest was valid that was used to apprehend the right person, and that Cesar Laurean is in fact the man wanted in Onslow County which is why Laurean was interrogated recently and made his first appearance in court on Saturday. After that is officially established, the Judge decides based on the evidence, whether to recommend extradition, and as you just updated us, Adam, this preliminary hearing is now over and the Judge recommended that Lauren should be extradited. Now from here Laurean has two choices. Either waive his right to appeal the judge’s decision and voluntarily return to the United States or fight it by appeal.

2. (Personally I believe Lauren already made his first attempt to avoid extradition, by getting the Sheriff to write that email, which confirms that that civilian prosecutor lacks capacity to assure that the military won’t court martial Laurean and seek the death penalty, and here Lauren was successful on two levels. First, he wanted to get the word out that he wants to strike a deal to avoid being charged by the military and also avoid accountability for on the other crimes, sexual assault adultery etc.; and second, he most likely wanted some type of proof to submit to a judge during the initial court appearance or throughout the appeals process that the Onslow Dar’s assurances are simply not enough force Mexico to extradite him on appeal.

3. If he does decide to appeal extradition, it will be only after he has negotiated with both the military and the civilian authorities for dramatically reduced penalties and we will know this within the next 60 days, which is when Laurean is for the first time required to make his first appearance now that the extradition process has begun, and will for the first time be required to put on the record either a waiver of his right to appeal or a decision to fight. He could win at the at the first appellate level, if he successfully argues that while the Onslow County anti- death assurances simply are not enough since it does not bind the military, and therefore extradition under these circumstances violates the treaty. If he loses his first appeal, Mexico has a lengthy appellate process available to him under Mexican law as a Mexican citizen which could take years? Theoretically Laurean could appeal all the way to the Mexican equivalent of a Supreme Court, and Lauren could use the time factor as a bargaining tool. He knows we want him back to face justice in the United States ASAP and we really don’t like the idea of waiting years for his return, and to add insult to injury he is one of our marines, and it does not bode well to see him milk this thing and turn it into an international issue with great media attention involving the conduct of one of our United States Marines evading our judicial system.

4. What is Laurean’s most likely course of action or defense strategy?

Answer: Lauren will most likely have his attorney who he may have hired before he fled North Carolina, get him representation in Mexico and then start structuring Lauren’s position within the next 60 days, to expose Laurean to serve the least amount of time behind bars, negotiate with both the military and civilian authorities to clarify the jurisdictional issues and ensure that all additional charges sexual assault, adultery, fraud, mishandling of a corpse, aren’t pursued, and he may even have an eye towards a reduction of the first degree murder charge to be reduced to a non life sentence crime.

. I’m afraid that he could technically use his choice to use discretion to waive his appeal of extradition as his the primary negotiation tool. This is why:

- At this time Laurean faces life in prison in Onslow county as a civilian if he is extradited, but if he fights and wins an appeal he most likely will not get anything near a life sentence in Mexican court but he would put himself in physical grave danger if he spends any amount of time in a Mexican prison which are typically very dangerous, corrupt, lacking proper sanitation and prisoners are underfed and malnourished.

I still have a few additional questions about his wife’s conduct. What did she say to Lauterbach when she confronted her on the military base? Did she aid him in any way by not going to authorities immediately, and since she herself is a marine she may face charges by The marines, for her conduct since it is clear that the Onslow DA will not take action. Did she provide him with advice as to what type of strategy to pursue, i.e. flee to Mexico to evade the law.

Regards,

Gwen Lindsay-Jackson, Esq.

Derek and Vic,

you both make very excellent points. its great to see people have what you can actually call a civil debate. I only disagree with one point made by Derek. As far as the military investigating the matter thoroughly in response to the rape claim, and what was reported in their Inspector General inspection, of how did the Military Times put it “the lack of paper work that was reported with this investigation” I have my doubts. There were two orders of protection placed against him only one of which was enforced. Could she have been lying about it? yes…….but for someone who is a compulsive liar… she sure did tell the truth an awful lot. During the investigation she admitted that the first encounter was consensual. For validation of that fact check the Marine Times. She admitted to both the investigators and a friend of Cpl Lauren’s that the first encounter was consensual, it was when she found out that He had no intention of breaking it off with his wife that she stated she no longer wanted to have sexual relations with him. By admitting the first encounter was consensual she put her own career in jeopardy. She could and would have been charged with adultery. As for her stop mother, it has been reported by the media she too is a compulsive liar and never had a good relationship with her daughter. I think its too late to ever find out if she was raped, and proving that he is the father of the child won’t prove a thing after she admitted to having consensual sex with him at least one time. But I do believe he killed that young girl and he ran to flee the consequences. Though once again I’d like to say great job to the both of you for holding at least in my eyes a civil debate over an issue that will be carried out for at least a year or two.

Hey Derek I agree with everything you’ve said…this guy just has to tell the whole truth and if he does, he may tell the courts how she did harrass him, if he doesn’t tell the truth then it’s his ass, Ny guess is he’ll lie all the way through and end up in prison for life.

You see, I am retired Navy - and that tells me we ARE seeing this case from exactly the same vantage point, but maybe from slightly (emphasis on “slightly”) different angles.
Yeah, I remember the kids who needed anything from a slight nudge to get them going on the straight and narrow to the ones who commited the most grievous of transgressions - the ones you loved and the ones you loved to hate - but in each case we commit ourselves to professionalism. We praise publicly, and berate or punish privately. And we never forget that in the end, it’s all about the guy next to you.
Well, again, thank you for the lively discussion…this is my final post today. Gotta get some work done!

I actually have mixed feelings regarding the Chinese security forces “guarding” the Olympic torch. I don’t like the idea of them pushing Americans out of the way that are exercising their freedom of speech in their own land……..on the other hand, Since they brought the torch here and if something were to happen “in close”, they would be the ones sacrificing their safety and not our guys.

You are right, we agree on more than we disagree, this is tragic, he did murder her, and there are more facts to be revealed. I hate to think of her bringing this on her self, but part of me believes that she was really hammering this guy. Did they have sex, I am sure of it, did she believe she had been raped, probably, it was said she is bipolar and a compulsive liar, she probably really believes her lies, which would make her even more determined to get “justice”

we have a couple of kids (yes kids) caught up in circumstances bigger than themselves, both of them needed help and finally one of them went too far. He will pay for it, for the rest of his life, and that will be a tragedy as well.

I get riled when I see people posting on here to shoot him, hang him, throw him in with bubba, and I was probably guilty of defending him, you brought another level of intelligence to the blog- thank you.

I have too many stories, that if they were taken out of context, I would be perceived as a monster, and I have had to defend my actions, when I have mortified myself, in order to make sure the whole story is told.

Even though this kid is a Marine, and I am Army, he reminds me of the stupid kids in my squad, and I would until my death, defend them, stand up for them, and be there for them, even if I know they had done wrong. I would make sure they paid the piper, but i would be there for them.

Well, you’ve forced me to put in one last comment. I do agree with you on wanting the other “facts” to come to light, and also on not wanting to “string him up” until and unless the facts prove that this kid (Laurean) has earned it. Truly, as you’ve stated, this is an unfortunate situation. Our laws are not “one size fits all”, so all the facts must be on the table before a “just” decision is made. While I still would not put any blame on Lauterbach for her own death, I do believe that the course of action she was pursuing, regardless of her mental state, may have indeed caused her fellow Marine to snap. Would that be considered a mitigating circumstance? I can’t say. Now I have to make it clear this is me speculating and no one else. But I truly believe that when the ACT of murder is committed, at the moment it it is committed, it is a rash decision, without regard for anything else but completing the act, for whatever reason. And this I believe is why it was apparent that [Laurean] had no real follow-up plans after he had allegedly committed the act.

Derek, the discussion has been enlightening, I know we don’t stand on diametrically opposite poles in this case. Thanks, have a great weekend.

nail on the head, she had “problems of occasional compulsive lying”

This we KNOW…she accused him of raping her

The naval investigators found no physical or eyewitness proof of that.

She continued to press, why did she go to his house?

He killed her, there is no doubt about that.

The things we need to look at, why would a young marine with a promising future, a loving family and a bright future snap and kill her?

She was over at his house for a reason, he had already been put though an investigation where no evidence was recovered, she was pressing forward, did she want something from him? was he the father?

There are a lot of questions and all of these people are calling for him to be shot, they need to look at what he had already gone through.

Did she bring some of this on herself? absolutely, look at these facts…she was a compulsive liar, there had been no evidence of a rape by him, she was continuing to press the issue….SHE WENT OVER TO HIS HOUSE, would you go see your rapist at his house?

I am saying let the facts come out, and don’t lynch this young man, because none of us were there for it.

So how does the content of your last post put everything else into “context”? I may have missed that. The fact still remains that someone killed this young woman, and that all the public has been allowed to see so far points to Laurean as the one who caused her death. PERIOD. Does her being, as you have so clearly pointed out, a “deranged pathological liar” somehow mitigate the circumstances of her death? Had Laurean actually raped her? We don’t know, do we? What if this young woman perceived her suspected assailant to be a threat to her, and thought she could find no support, was murdered and thus denied her day in court, where the truth would have eventually been uncovered? As you had pointed in your quote, her own mother admitted she was very vulnerable, that her daughter’s problems “set her up to be the perfect victim”.

VICTIM! You seem to be saying that Maria Lauterbach is somehow (partly) to blame for what has befallen her. Do I get your “context” right?

I do not dispute the “facts”

lets list them

1. Compulsive liar claims marine rapes her, there is no physical evidence

2. Keeps pressing the issue and forces an investigation.

3. Male marine lies about affair, yes I think he has told some lies.

4. Female marine gets killed

5. Well thought out cover story of “she slit her own throat”

6. marine burns body in his own back yard, again, well thought out

7. Heads to mexico, well thought out again.

8. Lives on streets eating fruit he can find.

So, wow, when you put everything into context I guess it starts to seem different.

I guess you are ready to execute the girl that just killed her own dad, she blew his head off with a shotgun, then said that 2 men broke in and did it to cover herself, of course police broke her and she confessed….lets fry her

oh wait…her dad had sexually abused her since she was 7, they lived in horrendous conditions with fleas and filth, no sink in the bathroom and nasty animals in the house.

I guess when you put things in context they sound different

hey vic-

facts?

My daughter was a beautiful girl with a beautiful figure and perceived credibility issues. That set her up to be the perfect victim,” Mary Lauterbach said of her daughter in an interview published Sunday in the Dayton Daily News.

Mary Lauterbach said that when an Onslow County, N.C., sheriff’s investigator asked for an e-mail telling everything she could about her daughter, “I said she had problems with occasional compulsive lying.”

She said she last talked with her daughter by phone on Dec. 14. Later that night, a friend of her daughter called and said Maria had left a note that said, according to the Marine Corps, “I could not take this Marine Corps life anymore. So I’m going away. Sorry for the inconvenience, Maria.”

Mary Lauterbach believes her daughter should have been more forceful in pursuing the rape accusation against Laurean. She said her daughter told her in May that she had been attacked on April 10.

Mary Lauterbach’s first reaction was skepticism.

“You realize you’ve lost all your evidence now?” she recalled telling her daughter. “Maria, you have to know you cannot make any false statements because that is one of the worst things you could possibly do. You could ruin somebody’s career, and you won’t be doing yourself any favors either.”

The newspaper said a Marine report shows that Maria Lauterbach told fellow Marines in 2006 that her father had accidentally killed her 6-year-old brother by throwing a lamp at him, and she was put in counseling after her mother assured authorities that the brother was alive.

Her mother said that fed Maria Lauterbach’s skepticism that the Marine Corps would fully pursue her rape charges against Laurean, but she said she told her daughter she had to report any rape to protect other female Marines.

Naval investigators said they have no physical evidence or eyewitness testimony to corroborate Maria Lauterbach’s claims of rape. They concluded that her first sexual encounter with Laurean was not criminal in nature, and that a second did not involve any force or coercion. Laurean denied they had any sexual contact at all.

Did I miss that? so here we have context, seems she does have a problem with compulsive lying, so that puts everything else into context.

Derek-

Yes, let’s look at the facts - 1) One woman killed, via blunt force trauma to her head
2) Her body burned and buried on the suspect’s property
3) The woman’s unborn child, of course also killed
4) The suspect lied by saying the woman “slit her own throat”
5) The woman’s death occurring very shortly before she was to
testify against the suspect in an investigation to be conducted by
the Marine Corps
6) All the suspect’s actions so far, “standard” behavior from someone
fleeing from the law
7) Governments cooperating to seize the suspect and have
same extradited.

- Hope I didn’t miss anything -

Now, is it a “fact” as you’ve stated that the homicide victim may “deranged”? How did you arrive at this analysis? Do you truly believe it to be a “fact” that this suspect is not one who “ranks up there with someone that is a premeditated murderer”? How did you get to this “fact”? “Feeling” threatened is different from “being” threatened and will not hold water as a defense in any court. You do not necessarily shoot an intruder under every circumstance - the bottom line is, discretion must be exercised before you pull that trigger and end an “intruder’s” life. An “intruder” is still a human being, and that piece of lead, once it goes past the muzzle of a pistol, cannot be called to return.

The facts are that all the evidence the public has been allowed to see so far points strongly to Laurean as having a close connection with the cause of Lauterbach’s death and that of her unborn child (NOT “FETUS”!!!). Innocent until proven guilty is how our court system works…and the facts, ALL THE FACTS, depending on what light the lawyers will shine on them, will prove or disprove guilt.

We do not have all the facts. But certainly what facts we have now point in Laurean’s general direction. I have not made any judgements on either the victim or the suspect. Let’s all wait until everything is on the table and see where justice the justice system takes us.

A Marine that deserts in time of war and has committed TWO killings should be taken out lined up against a wall and SHOT.

Richard-

I believe in harsh punishment as well, if it fits the crime, but more importantly I believe in trials, intent, and all of the circumstances surrounding it. I do not believe that this guy ranks up their with someone that is a premeditated murderer.

We have to look at intent, psychological well being, circumstances and evidence. If he was being pushed to the limits by a deranged pathological liar, and felt his life (career, lifestyle, family) was being threatened, how is that different from somebody shooting an intruder that they thought had a gun and it turns out they were carrying a cell phone.

Lets look at the facts, let the evidence come out, and know this kid is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law

I just don’t think women belong in the military unless it’s like the WAC’s where they are not with men everyday. This is a nightmare for the military. This guy is a coward, and needs to be dealth with by the military in as harsh a way as possible. Too many people feel they can escape justice by running to mexico after crime commited here in the US. An example has to be set with harsh consequences for this to cease.

Adam……….I don’t think anyone is questioning the content of your reports……….You were, after all, the only reporter that told us the real reasoning behind The Barrel Guy’s antics in Las Vegas………That’s still one of my favorites.

Adam just forgets to read the other threads!! :D

Susan…….I have a some “cheeky” answers to your question, but I don’t want to offend our friend LDG (or our friends in Japan)…………Not that I’m sensative to offending anyone, but he appears to have the capability to up the ante in a payback, if he desires to do so. Him wearing those “funny” hats and all……

I happen to like Calderón and Uribe!

I know President Calderón is a good guy- I have a friend who flys for Mexicana, as a Captain, and lives in Mexico City, who tells me how good of a President he is trying to be.

john-

I am with you, I hate the judge jury and executioner role of the media, it is very similar to the armchair quarterbacking we see of the fighting in Iraq. I hated that after every engagement, me and my men would be hauled in and questioned repeatedly by officers that had never in their lives been near a firefight, we had nothing to hide and we broke no laws of war, but they still could not understand it until they had experienced it.

Same thing with this, except he made a mistake, I often think what would stop me from defending my family, nothing, I would do whatever was necessary to defend them, what was going through this kids mind? did he feel his family, way of life, reputation or career was under attack? I think we are going to find a very disturbed young woman was harassing a guy that was not emotionally stable enough to handle such an attack and it all went horribly wrong.

That is my opinion

they should have just shot him and save the americans millions we are going to spend on him and put the money to much better use. what a scum bag

Derek……..Glad you’re sticking with the facts. I’m getting a little tired of suspects being tried, convicted and punished in the media……and their subsequent blogs. Truth is most of us hear know absolutely nothing about this case other than what the authorities have told us………which hasn’t been much.

Susan……..I believe whistling at night in Japan is an old superstition that doing so brings bad luck.

I woke up thinking about him yesterday and wondering if all had been forgotten. When I came home form work and saw he had been captured, it was like he had harmed one of my family members. I started saying Thank God and laughing at him because he thought he was going to get away with killing a mother and unborn child so grusomly. I hope no mercy is taken on him, and if he was chatting with his wife on the computer, I think she should be charged with harboring. I have had to turn in a sibling for something horrible that he did and, I think if someone has done something wrong they should own up to it. GOD BLESS the Lauterbach family.

Comment by Max Kon

I’m glad he’s been caught.
I guess the ‘once a marine always a marine’ line doesn’t apply to those who will be courtmartialed out of the marines.

whoa whoa whoa….

OK everybody, now that we KNOW he killed her in cold blood, danced on her grave, pissed on the flag and then hurried off to his well planned escape….wait a minute…lets take a step back and review what we really KNOW, and put it into some contexts, then we can maybe start to understand this case…we know very little, but lets review shall we?

1. The dead girl is a pathological liar..her step mom said this, have you ever worked with anyone (man or woman) who is compelled to lie about everything, it is not fun.

2. There was no definitive proof he raped her or was the father of her baby, the military investigates this thoroughly, and if they did not find anything, then there was nothing.

3. She still was harassing him over it, going to his house, calling him, calling his wife.

4. She was killed and disposed of in a hasty manner, not like a premeditated murder.

5. He is found surviving on fruit he can find in Mexico, not the signs of a well thought out plan.

So these are things we KNOW, what we don’t know, is what actually happened, do I THINK he killed her? yes I do, do I THINK he should be tried? yep, do I THINK he is a monster? well, given the truly monstrous examples we have on the news, I think he is a dumb scared kid, that had been pushed to the limits by a delusional co-worker, after months of allegations, harassment and what I THINK would be threats (court-martial, blackmail, lawsuits, etc.) he finally just exploded, killed her, got scared, and ran.

IMO

Comment by Joseph R

Glad they finally caught him, but there are mixed truths being flown around this blog.

1) according to the information released by the Onslow county police department the girls was buried at his home which was not located on Camp Lejeune, which would give Onslow county jusidiction.

2) the USMC doesn’t allow you to get charged for the same crime twice which is correct. BUT the UCMJ can charge him under an umbrella article which covers everything, so no they can’t charge him for Article 118 (murder), but they can charge him with Article 95: Resistance, breach of arrest, and escape, and then there’s always the ever so often used Article 134. And if the death penalty is taken off the table the Marine Corps can use it to make sure that he serves to life sentences.

obviously its sad that this process has to even happen but for those who want this to end quickly it won’t. Besides the punishment he’s receiving right now from his other inmates trust me he’s hating life right now. There are three countries you never wanted to get arrested in as a foreigner: Bulgaria, Mexico and Bratislava. Their prisons are not sanctioned to adhere to civil law. Go ahead and cry rape or mistreatment, they will say 1) you broke our laws, so to bad so sad, and 2) if you didn’t come to our country to break laws you wouldn’t be in this position. I believe he is hating life and can’t wait to come back to the states.
