Hi Max again–

I am on the border thread–

Poor Myanmar– cyclone hit them big time– I tried to post the link but it wouldn’t go through!!!

Hundreds were killed!!!

I had a fun day yesterday– Danielle, Ken, and I had a good day of some hiking– Well, Ken didn’t hike- it got too hot so we cut our hiking short– we ate too much the day before so we had to go walk it off!!!

And as you saw–LDG had me thinking– Grrr! (Actually, after my frustrations go away, I can’t begin to thank him for all he has taught me– and you too, young man!! You know how much I like you both!! SINCERELY!)

How is your week-end?

Comment by Max Kon

Hey Susan!
What’s up? have a good weekend?

Adam dear,

I think I will keep my job as Personal Assistant.

Max was the first to post on this thread and part of his post was this:

US Marines, Navy Seals, or Coast guard on a simulation exercise.

If it’s coast guard then they’d likely be simulating catching narco trafficers

———————————————————————————————————

He kind of had it right! He was on the right track!

Give him some credit!

I just listened to Bill Haley– You’re Never Too Old to Rock– via your link– (rocking here)!

THAT IS A COOL LINK– I can even listen to music!!!

I am copying it and sending it over to my email side–

Comment by Susan- AZ

I am copying from the last paragraph you just posted and moving it over to 8–

I will play around with it for a bit– and if I don’t get it now, trust me I will– I will have to more or less read both of these treaties— as I know very little about each–

Meanwhile– You have a good day–

BTW– White Tanks was nice– the sun was not– I carried an umbrella!!! We covered three trails and quit!! Not that we were lazy– darn sun!!! Your red fire ball was a big huge skin cancer!

Are you departed so I can go play for another half hour on #8?

((((hugs))))) ((((and grrrrr because you make me think)))))))

Comment by LDG

@Susan-AZ

That seem to be it for me here until ‘morning’. I look forward to seeing your progress!

re: White Tanks –sounds like it was a wonderful day!

re: “going to POD 8 –

“I do have the right Treaty? So I can play around with some of your questions there for a bit?”

You have the right treaty (Versaille, of 1919~, ended WWI) for the answer to Bonus (2). The key to what you need to write is compare the relationship after Treaty of Portsmouth, 1905, with what became of that relationship after the Versaille negotiations. Do that, and you’ll pretty much have it done… but re-read the question to be sure, please!

Again, glad you learn so much! The news is a lot more interesting when it is meaningful, and our host seems to care enough to take on meaningful stories.

You just capped that in a nutshell!!!!! Exactly!!!!!!

I do it *because* you appreciate that someone will do it. Thank you!

As to the frustrations, it is the success that makes the process worth the trouble.

re: these Thread topics of our good host

He goes to the trouble of making them meaningful. The least I can do is give them the respect he does.

Again, glad you learn so much! The news is a lot more interesting when it is meaningful, and our host seems to care enough to take on meaningful stories.

Danielle, Ken, and I went to White Tanks today instead of Prescott– we hiked there so Ken could sit at a shaded picnic table– We all came back and took naps–

I am not tired right now–

going to POD 8 –

I do have the right Treaty? So I can play around with some of your questions there for a bit?

Comment by Susan- AZ

LDG–

On the record– I truly love you! You make me so angry at times– And I just get sooooo frustrated with your questions– but you have been my mentor and the fact you take the time out to try to teach me just boogles my mind!!!

I truly appreciate what you do for me!!!

On the record again– you take Adam’s threads seriously– You have and are a great participant and I have no clue what your IQ is but I do know this– I have learned so much from you and Adam!

Comment by LDG

I’ll be needing to go, in any case. If there is more posted on the POD-8 thread I’ll check it for you later, if that is alright?

((departs shortly))

@Susan-AZ

Thank you for staying up late to take a go at this. It was great fun to see you succeed!

off-topic: if you have time to write to me and explain how the Versaille Treaty fits into Bonus (2) on the TR question, I’ll go post a completion for that so it is closed.

more off-topic, sort of: If you want to read a lengthy history of an airbase in S. Korea that focuses on the problem of constant N. Korean attempts to spy and sabotage the place, enjoy reading this in your free time:

But I have to bring you along–

Comment by Susan- AZ

Kumano Kuma–

Stepwise is a good method for me! As I learn better this way- instead of doing a fast internet search and posting exactly what I read, I find it it better for me, to have it done in small strides as I then don’t scurry around for the answer– and replicating a answer as to what I may not have understood!

And if others read this too, as it was done slowly, maybe this will all make sense as well-

Thank you so much!!!!

And- in respect to our host– we were on his subject!

Comment by LDG

My congratulations, Mistress Counter-Spy for the Day…

you managed to pick out both a reasonable course of diplomatic counterintelligence (to spot NK-Venez cooperation and track any NK operators entering Venezuela) *and* you have operational training advice for the USCG on who to crosstrain with to get the latest techniques on stopping the semi-subs *even if they get more advanced in quality*.

I’d say that was a very fine effort on your part!

Thank you–

see how I complicate my life– the obvious was too obvious! (hugs to you)

Comment by LDG

The Republic of Korea Navy and Air Force, with the U.S. forces assisting, are the most experienced semi-sub hunters around. So if you need to learn what is already known about how to best find them, ask the experts.

no, and no it is not tough.

North Korea builds the best semi-subs in the world to threaten…?

Is Great Britian part of this?

that is a tough one!

Comment by LDG

off-topic: hehheh on the picture.

on-topic: nope, not Colombia. A country that has had to fend off semi-subs for years… spy subs…

Comment by Susan- AZ

Going on the Pacific coastline– Uribe for starters–

Comment by Susan- AZ

Do me a favor- click on my name! this is my perception of you and my brain! (wink) Notice, I am omitting the emoticons as I know you don’t like them-

Comment by LDG

Conclusion: Those 4 items listed all chain together to point out that a key fact to watch for is *any* interaction between Chavez/Venezuela and North Korea that would facilitate North Korean assistance to the FARC, specifically to improve the quality of the semi-submersibles used for smuggling.

Which also leads to…

…so who should the U.S.Coast Guard be talking to about finding and intercepting semi-subs?
Which of our allies has the most experience stopping them?

Comment by Susan- AZ

(laughing here)

sometimes, the answer is way too simple– so I read more into it–

as the Versailles Treaty– I kept thinking–no, this is not the answer– it is too easy!

Comment by Susan- AZ

wowie–

You had me going!

Comment by LDG

Which brings us to wrap this up…

Comment by LDG

There is Step (6): Venezuela, under Hugo Chavez, is uniquely positioned to provide money-handling and diplomatic cover for any FARC-North Korea cooperation.

Comment by Susan- AZ

Comment by Susan- AZ

Don’t tell me Russia or China is part of this?

Comment by LDG

Comment by LDG

@Susan-AZ

money is correct for step (5), yes.

no on Mexico, of course… no on Iran, too far away… who is your favorite FARC supporter down in the same neighborhood?

Comment by Susan- AZ

Nope–

just read your question again– Hugo!

Comment by LDG

Note about: “You build me some good subs ”

the problem there, like the North Koreans building missiles for other countries, is that their cargoes are being intercepted and examined on the high seas now… because they are under some embargoes. So no building them and sending them, *unless* they had a legitimate country order them and take delivery… but that would finger that country as aiding the FARC.

Comment by Susan- AZ

scratch Mexico–

Iran?

Comment by Susan- AZ

Comment by Susan- AZ

So money is correct?

Comment by LDG

There you go!

Step (6) : So who is the FARC’s money man these days?, and who (the same guy) could provide diplomatic cover for either FARC going to North Korea or North Koreans coming to aid the FARC?

Comment by LDG

nope. they already think they have those.

MONEY

…money they can use outside North Korea, like Dollars.

Comment by Susan- AZ

OR MONEY? You build me some good subs and I will give you back a percentage of the drug money?

Comment by Susan- AZ

Well- how about the shot in the dark?

weapons– nuclear-

Comment by LDG

@Susan-AZ

well, you are sort of jumping there… remember that idea and let’s take it by the last few steps.

step (4) The FARC would be interested in having better semi-subs built… and the North Koreans are the best semi-sub builders in the world.

got that. ok

step (5) So to get North Korean help/advice, you need to give the North Koreans…?

Comment by Susan- AZ

Comment by Susan- AZ

I just read your post– I don’t have to wander off–

well I will be again—

so Venezuela’s visit, of course, is to do some table talking– esepecially now since these other subs are now part of vista— so the tech and building of subs would have to improve-

Comment by LDG

“I was just reading about North Korea and spy subs!”

that is very good. I trust you have also read all the posts above and are current to now, yes?

(say so when ready to procede, please)

Comment by Susan- AZ

Comment by LDG

It is also 99% propaganda, and 1% reasonable way to run their country.

Comment by LDG

Re: “Juche” — it means Self-reliance. The North Koreans believe it as a dogma that they must do and make everything they need themselves, if at all possible.

Comment by LDG

re: Step 4:

“North Korea?”

well, YES. The world’s premier semi-sub and snorkel-boat builders are currently the North Koreans… they have more than 20 years experience building them for spying on South Korea, and are so good now they build semi-sub Attack Boats and sell them for export.

Rather than reading lots of sources, here is a good one, excerpted below the link (which can look at later, please)

***
http://www.sinodefenceforum.com/world-armed-forces/bluffers-guide-iranian-naval-capability-2007-a-3230.html

Iran is reported to operate a small number of North Korean designed Taedong-B and Taedong-C semi-submersible attack craft delivered in 2002. At least one such boat, thought to be a Taedong-B “Kajami”, has been publicly displayed during war-games. This appearance substantiates previous media reports but beyond that much remains speculation.

Both types are believed to be equipped with lightweight 324mm (12.75”) torpedoes. Typical torpedoes in this size class have a range of between 6km and 10km. It is extremely unlikely that these boats will be refitted with the larger Shkval rocket torpedo or anti-ship missiles.

It is not clear whether the attack profiles of these boats is to lay in wait submerged and then attack at high speed on the surface, or vice versa to approach at high speed then submerge for the final stage of the attack. The boats can probably dive to about 3m depth using a snort mast which remains on/near the surface. The vessel is probably capable of about 40kts on the surface and about 10kts submerged.

Taedong-B:
((IMAGE GOES HERE IN ORIGINAL POST))

It is reported that the Taedong-C class closely resembles the Peykaap class torpedo boat, and it may be that the Peykaap is itself the submersible boat, although that seems unlikely.

Although these boats offer some novel tactical opportunities for Iran, they are unlikely to be successful if operating against larger warships armed with their own anti-submarine torpedoes, or fast moving targets. The lightweight torpedoes are unlikely to sink even a modest warship although obviously a successful attack could immobilize even a large warship.

step four–

North Korea?

send link!

Comment by LDG

re: Socal’s post — nope that is all he posted… but trust me, it fits in.

back to step (4): so how could the FARC learn to build better semi-subs?

Comment by Susan- AZ

I need a link for socal’s post, my friend!

Comment by LDG

Steps so far:

(1) There are lots of good reasons to build semi-subs for smuggling.

(2) The boatbuilders need to have pretty specialized skills to build good semi-subs. they used to be pretty poor quality, but are getting better every year.

(3) The FARC controls the boatbuilders.

(4) …

we are to step 4… The FARC would be interested in having better semi-subs built…

Comment by Susan- AZ

You mean I didn’t copy it– now you know why I was missing– (send me a hug)

I also had to go check out the location, my dear!

Comment by Susan- AZ

socal’s post has me hanging– is there more to it?

Comment by LDG

OK! You have something there… oddly your post is not the complete phrasing from Malkin’s…

Here is the key connection from that article:

Cely indicated that the clandestine shipyards are definitely the property of the northern Valle del Cauca cartel, which runs them through criminal gangs and the 29th and 30th Fronts of the FARC [Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia] and through an alliance with the cartels of Mexico.

***

That tells you without a doubt that the building of these semi-subs is under FARC control. Very good! that is one more step!

Comment by Susan- AZ

slow reading kumano– I had to go look up Valle de Cauca– I wonder how many of us knew or know where this place actually was? I do now– (grin)

Comment by LDG

ah ok, you are back. let me read your post carefully…

Comment by LDG

@Susan-AZ

How are you progressing? I am concerned you might be lost or distracted by now.

Comment by Susan- AZ

I was reading Michelle’s article– Kudos to Adam for having being acknowledged–

Ok– what I am getting- for starters– is the sub is built for stealth– meaning it is intended to produce a weak radar return– this is a given–

These clandestine shipyards are the property of Valle del Cauca–facing the Pacific Ocean- *good for the subs- calmer water-

Valle de Cauca which is in Colombia and this is east of Venezuela– hence, drug cartels by FARC-

Given the law– if the cargo goes down (hence the way these subs are built for this purpose), the Coast Guard is required to rescue these guys and take them to shore– so these subs are not trivial in the building since the purpose is what I just stated-

this is one connection I see-

Comment by LDG

@Susan-AZ

ok, tell me when you think you have some idea about all four points (you already know about the FARC), and we’ll go stepwise from there.
